DEPARTMENT OF HOME SCIENCE

Department of Home Science was established along with establishment of the college in the year 1981 . Initially it was in Intermediate level , affiliated to Utkal University . Degree classes were opened in the year 1988 with pass subject. At present the subject is available to the students as Honours with 20 seats since 2016-17. .

RELEVNCE OF THE SUBJECT

Home Science Education is that part of learning programme that, prepares the students for greatest of all vocations-Home Making. It helps the development of right values and appreciation. The study of Home Science enables the learners to understand the responsibilities of family membership, management of one’s resources, making intelligent decision and selection of competing demands.

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT:

The department of home science came into existence in the year 1981 in out college under the able supervision of lecturer Ms. Jayashree Nayak. This department started with 03 in (Pass) Number of students but now it reaches the height of 33                Number of students in Pass, Elective & Honours subjects with three lecturers, one demonstrator and one office bearer. It has its own space for class room –cum-laboratory, well equipped with as much as possible accessories required for smooth conduct of practical classes. Text books and some journals are also available for the department.  The primary emphasis of these courses is based on the development of society which is relevant to all. The role of home science signifies Knowledge from various field like- Food and Nutrition , Child care & Child development , Marriage and family relationship ,Resource management ,Consumer education ,Nursing ,Health & Hygiene , First-Aid , Interior decoration , Textile & clothing , Extension Education    , Home management etc. Different areas of this education prepare students for a variety job which raises our standard of living, maintaining good family life and prepare the students to meet the challenges of life for the devolvement of our society.    Home science is especially vocational in nature. Besides teaching learning activities, with members of the department take steps to develop different entrepreneur    skill at our level and also organises the various awareness programme for the betterment of public health problems.  

          The department has successfully generated the spirit “To excel in academic “among the students. Analysis of result of the past  indicates that the students are doing well in their academic carrier  and the outgoing student are well placed in different sphere like Lecturers , Dieticians , L.A.Co., C.D.P.O., Block Level Project Officer , Interior decorator, Hotel manager etc.
