The foundation stone of N.P.M.M., was laid by Sj. J.B. Pattanaik, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Odisha on 09-05-1981. It was aspired that this infant institution shall develop only basing upon the goodwill of the people of Nayagarh.
Since long the necessity of establishing a Women's College at Nayagarh was felt, where the young women from far & near can be able to have their education. This dream came to be true . On 12-10-1980, a meeting was organized under presidentship of Smt.Golaprani Pattanaik and it was decided that a sub-divisional level Women's College shall be established from the session 1981-1982 at Nayagarh. The proponents of Nayagarh Prajamandal movement like, Banchhanidhi Senapati, Laxman Maharana, Sridhar Dash assured to donate the movable & immovable property of Prajamandal Organisation to this college. In the memory of the sacred donation of "Nayagarh Prajamandal organisation", the College was named as Nayagarh Prajamandal Mahila Mahavidyalaya.
The Governing Body of the college was framed with Sri Bhaskar Mahapatra, Sub-Collector as the president and it was registered. The interest of people of Nayagarh, good wishes of the educationists, the help of the donors, and the support of other institutions have inspired a lot for running this college.
The college had its inception from dt. 02-07-81 in the old building of Prajamandal office in Nayagarh town.Mr S.M Soleman was the founder Secretary of the college.This date is celebrated as foundation day.
It started imparting Education in I.A. level being recognized by Govt. of Orissa and affiliated by Utkal University. I.A.stage was converted to +2 stage in 1983-84 and +3 class in Arts was started in 1988-89. The college was got permanent recognition from Govt. of Odissa and permanent affiliation of +3 courses by Utkal University.
From the year 1991-92 the college started functioning with principal-cum-Secretary and this practice is going on till date.
Honours Courses in Pol. Science, History, Education and Sanskrit were started in the year 1994-95 and English Oriya & Economics Honours have started from the year 2010-2011 with 16 seats each and later increased to 32 seats .and finally Psychology and Home Science Honours started from the year 2016-2017 with 20 seats each.
In the year 1999, Music course was introduced in +2 Arts.
The +2 Science Course commenced from 1999-2000 with due permission of Govt. of Odisha with 64 seats each. At present +2 science is of strength 128.
On 30th May 2015,R.D Women's (Autonomous) college was declared as University.Thereafter our college was affiliated to RAMADEVI WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY.
The development of the college is attributed to the donations received from the people of Nayagarh and Govt. of Odisha . Further development of the college is due to the financial assistance of the U.G.C, State Govt. and M.P.Fund.
Almost 1500 students pursue their study in the college and nearly 150 students reside in the hostel within the college campus. With the noble endeavour of President G.B. the science stream at +2 level, increases of seats and honours provisions in degree stage have been introduced in the institution.
The faculty members of this college consider teaching as a mission and as a profession.They strive hard to update their knowledge through effective use of library, participation in workshops,orientation programmes,seminars,refresher courses & visiting websites.
For all round development of students,the college provides various recreational facilities ,sport facilities,indoor & outdoor games and also has tried to develop the literary talent of the students through publication of college magazine,wall magazine & departmental seminars.The college also provides opportunity to the students to paricipate different extra curricular activities through YRC,NSS ,Self-defence pr0grammes.
At this twenty first century the institution looks forward to receive the glory envisioned by its well wishers.
